One More for the Shoo

Alright... one more. I had to do it.

But to be fair, I will embarrass more than just Shoo, including myself.

You have to agree that I would've been crazy to pass this one up:
Ahh the memories.
Yeah... The Supertones WERE pretty awesome, Shoo.

The Backstory:

This photo features four of the five members of the Eastside Queens, our self-named gang residing on Queensway Road. Carrie, I bet you were never more relieved to have been behind the camera.

This photo was taken at Christmas time during one of our annual gift exchanges. The five of us were all either in Jr. High or High School, and our allowances just weren't enough to afford gifts for all gang members.

So we devised a gift exchange where we drew names out of a hat and bought a gift for the one person we chose. Now, the Eastside Queens don't mess around. We bought legit gifts for each other. CD's, books, movies and the occasional item that was kindof sweet in a surprising way, and made you realize that Kyle really wasn't as big of an idiot as he seemed.

'Twas a Christmas Miracle.

The most hilarious Eastside Queens Gift Exchange of them all, though, was the year that Kyle, Shoo, Carrie and I all got really good gifts for each other. But poor Shoo, who had the misfortune of having his name drawn by my brother Dave, received nothing more than a bag of Skittles.

I think Shoo still shivers to this day when he sees a shiny red bag of those rainbow bastards in the grocery store checkout.

Shoo, I wouldn't feel too bad. Back in those days, Dave had really serious things to spend his money on... like Magic Cards and Pogs.

Congrats ONE MORE TIME to Shoo and Mrs. Shoo for finally making the leap to adulthood.

Shoo was the first of the Eastside Queens to make the leap, and I am proud to say that I was a witness at the momentous occasion.

Good GOD, even in junior high, Ktyle looked like a middle aged man in the IT department.

He looks like the old guy that inappropriately hangs out with kids a fraction of his age.

Skittles, you say...?

Yes, and my secret santa was Dave. What did I get him? A cool Star Wars figurine action set. And all I got was a bag of Skittles.

B, you're killing me with the photos here. Yes, the Supertones were awesome at that time because A. Ska was my new wave, B. I saw them at Powerlight at the state fair which only booked really cool acts at the time. (sarcasm off)

POWERLIGHT!!!! HAHAHAHA!!!

Oh man. That is so awesome. We were seriously the coolest people ever!!!

(I was at that show with you, skankin' my heart out.)

Sterno - I can assure you that Kyle even acted like the old inappropriate IT guy when he was in jr high.

He was one of the lucky ones to find his calling at an early age.

Talking about the old times. Remember when we crashed a church's after school pizza party just for the free pizza, but then told them we had to leave because we had 'band practice.'

Good times man... Good times.

Where is Kyle now, anyway? BTW, do you have any pictures from any of the 4th of July extravaganzas? I remember attending a few myself. I hope to teach my own children someday how to spend exorbitant amounts of money on fireworks and then blow the hell out of model houses and other objects specially constructed for destruction.

Actually yeah. A few blogs ago I posted one of our Model Empire State Building that we blew up in the back yard.

I don't remember the Empire state building. Maybe one of those 4th's that I missed. I do however remember the trailer park. That was a classic.

You definately did NOT miss the Empire State Building. I believe yours and Steve's contribution to the festivities was the "Taco Shack."

Does that ring a bell?

I will post more photos...
