Holy Sweet Baby Jesus help me…

I freaked out at the dentist’s office again today. I went in for two “quick and easy surface fillings” and it turned out to be a lot worse.

I apparently can’t handle dental work. The whole experience is just nauseating. My jaw, cheek, tongue and throat are still totally numb, and every time I swallow it feels like I am going to puke.

I thought I was tougher than this… apparently not.

I should get an award for “Most Likely to Cry at the Dentist’s Office.”

There something about all that stuff in my mouth and a shot right in my jaw and the smell of burnt tooth that my psyche just cannot handle.

Then they CHARGE me over 100 bucks to go through all this terror.

I just don’t see how this is ok.

Forget waterboarding… Dental work is the REAL problem in this country.

Let's Go Racin'

Look, I changed my little Yahoo mini-me.

Yahoo! Avatars

I think it looks hot.

I have chosen this theme for two reasons...

A) Fantasy Auto Racing is starting up for the season, and I am PUMPED.

B) I am going to the 50th Running of the Daytona 500 next month!!!

I am so excited!! I am going to be working with my old team again for the weekend. I can' wait. I miss Daytona alot, and I am really looking forward to the race.

Because NASCAR is awesome.

I get to see some family while I am down there too. They are nice enough to put me up for the weekend, I can't want to spend some quality fam time.

Let's Go Racin Folks!

I'm Somebody Now!

Woo Hoo! The day has come!

Check out what I just picked up:

...a shiny, new personalized license plate!

Did you know that Illinois has the highest number of vanity plates in the country? Must be where I got it from.

I just like having a personalized plate. It makes me feel like a person instead of just a number.

My little car has PERSONALITY.

OH YES!

Jack-o is doing a remake of Thriller with current popular musicians!

YES!

I've heard "Wanna Be Startin Somethin" re-done by Akon, and it's decent, even though Akon is annoying...

Let's hope it's better than the Sinatra Duets album.

Just leave Bono out of it!

Sorely Missed.

Did anyone else watch the NHL All-Star Weekend? Well I did, and it was sweet.

Although, I felt a huge hole in my heart since my love, Sidney Crosby was not in attendance. He’s out for 6-8 with a high ankle sprain and he was unable to participate in this year’s festivities, although he blew everyone else out of the water with votes.

It was small consolation that “Gino” Malkin was there in his stead, but I was glad that a fellow Penguin took his place.

The skills competition was pretty amazing to watch. There was a team relay competition, a breakaway challenge where the players were rated on style points, not whether or not they scored (sortof like the slam dunk challenge I guess, except WAY cooler). Then they had a contest for the fastest slap shot, which was RIDICULOUS.

The fastest shot was like 103mph… That is SICK.

No doubt, Sidney would’ve humiliated the competition with some flippin sweet puck-action during the Breakaway Challenge, but we still got to see some great moves.

I was also excited to see a good friend on TV, David Arrigo, who I worked with several times at the Speedway for events. He is a great talent, and a great guy. Makes me love Canadians.

The whole weekend, including the All-Star Game tonight, was entertaining, well planned, well executed and well covered by the VS. Network.

It all just leaves me wondering….

Why isn’t this sport more popular?

Your thoughts?

Happy Birthday to ME

I rock.

Another Successful Birthday

Another Birthday was had by all.

My mom and sister came to Louisville to visit for the weekend to celebrate my birthday. We had good times. Went to brunch, went to a REALLY shady flea market, Jenny spoke Chinese to one of the vendors, and then we came home and Jen made a super bountiful authentic Chinese meal for all of us.

It took a long time.

They decorated my apartment all Harry-Pottered-out. It was so festive...

Jenny made the Chinese goodies

Mom made me a cookie cake

I blew out the candles
and sat by the fire...

It was a good day....

Is Someone You Know Running for President?

This time of year, it's hard to tell who is and who isn't running for President of the United States. Especially if you're a resident of one of the all-important "caucus states."

It could be anyone really. Your neighbor, your paper boy, the cafeteria lady... even a member of your family.

In these confusing times, NPR has created a simple tool to aid Americans in rooting out these underlying candidates.

Just use this BINGO card to determine if someone you know is showing symptoms of running for president. When the suspected candidate completes an action included on the card, simply cover the square. If your suspect makes a BINGO, then you most certainly have a Presidential hopeful on your hands.

What you decide to do with this information is up to you.

To read more about this scientific test for presidential candidacy, read NPR's Robert Smith's article at NPR.org

My Birthday

My Birthday is in TWO DAYS

...

I hate you, Ab Girl

The abs workout is hhhaaaarrrrrddd.

After doing the ab workout, I get a huge headache and feel like my stomach is on fire.

Last night I ate a sour straw to feel better. It helped.

Today my elbow hurts though. Not sure why.

Collateral Damage, I guess...

Pilates Challenge

I have jumped on the fitness bandwagon, and I have been inspired by my budday to post it on my blog for all you guys to read about.

I guess I will give you updates and stuff on how my progress is going, but the most important thing is that you guys have to badger me about how I am doing, and help me stick with it. I need you to hold me accountable and call me out for being a fat loser and watching TV instead of doing HIP THRUSTS.

I have tried working out for years, and nothing has worked thusfar. When I say, “nothing has worked” I don’t mean it hasn’t worked, I mean I haven’t stuck with it.

I went to the Y regularly for a few months in Iowa, then I got the flu, stopped going, and never went back.
I started going on walks in my neighborhood in Florida, but then I moved back into an apartment and stopped going out walking.
I went to the gym at my apartment in Louisville for about a week, then stopped going because it's too cold to walk the 80 yards to the other building.
I went to a spinning class once about a month ago and never went back because it was scary.

See? I strongly dislike working out, and I think I have narrowed the reasons down to these findings:

1. I don’t like working out in front of people
2. I hate running
3. I don’t like to leave the house

So… my findings have led me to the conclusion that Pilates has a good chance of working for me, since I can do these workouts in my room with the door shut in my pajamas.

I purchased this two DVD set from Target with a lower body workout and an abs workout. Each workout is only 20 minutes long, so I figure I’d be an A-hole not to take 20 flippin minutes each day to do this.

I am on day three, and my abs and thighs already hurt, so that is a GOOD SIGN.

I just hope I can stick with it this time, because I would really like to fit into my pants again. Ha.

Wish me luck people, and KEEP HOUNDING ME!

The Feud is Back.

Can I tell you how awesome my office is?

Our conference room has a big screen TV, and one day we were all sitting around the table stuffing envelopes, chatting and watching TV. Well, my favorite time of day came around when Family Feud is on twice in a row.

My co-worker said, “Oh look, I love this show.” And the Family Feud Office Lunch Hour was born.

Now, a couple of times a week, five or six of us will get together in the conference room for Family Feud Office Lunch Hour. We’ll all sit around the table and eat our lunches while yelling out answers to The Feud.

This is the best job ever.

I never knew I would have coworkers who would share my love for The Feud, and now I have found them.

We even reserve the conference room on the meeting schedule for these times.

Man… what luck to have stumbled on such a rich office tradition. This is better than any “team building” activity that I could’ve come up with.

Almost-Birthday Dance

9 days till my birthday.
9 days till my birthday.
Woot!

My birthday falls on a Saturday, and it’s on a three day weekend! Thank you Dr. King!
(I am honored to share my b-day weekend with such a distinguished man, but I am more excited about having Monday off.)

I have no idea what I am doing for my b-day, but I hope my family comes to visit.

I am excited for my birthday this year, not really sure why. I mean, it’s not like 27 is a huge milestone or something. If anything, I would think I would be freaked out by being almost 30, but truth is, I don’t mind it too much.

Being a grown-up is alright. I guess.

Go Cards!

Me and my friend Jen in enemy territory

Cheer for a Cardinal of a different breed...

I went to a U of Louisville Basketball game this weekend. It was good times. We were in enemy territory at the University of Kentucky. Apparently these two schools have a HUGE rivalry in Kentucky, and the whole state shuts down for this game. Who knew?

I wanted to make the people at work happy, so I bought myself a brand-new UofL hoodie.

I like ittttttttt.

The game was fun & the nachos were good, but there were ENTIRELY too many fouls and time-outs in the last 5 minutes of the game. I think the last five minutes took at LEAST a half hour.

I would definitely go again. Makes me miss college... Ok not really.

How I Spent My Christmas Vacation

How I Spent My Christmas Vacation
By betsyradish

Christmas this year was just plain weird. Not really bad, but not really good either. It just didn’t feel right. I covered a lot of miles, saw a lot of people, gave a lot of presents, and did a lot of other strange things that aren’t normally Christmastime activities.

Here is a brief run-down of my Holiday Activities:

Got the flu
Drove to Springfield
Attended a Funeral
Skipped a wedding
Had an impromptu family reunion
Saw my sister for the 1st time in 4 years
Drove back to Louisville
Got KY License plates
Drove to Pittsburgh
Celebrated a Polish Christmas Eve
Opened presents from people I had just met
Ate Christmas Dinner in the car driving down the highway
Drove back to Louisville AGAIN
Drove to Springfield AGAIN
Got the flu AGAIN
Played too much Guitar Hero
Opened presents AGAIN
Celebrated Christmas Eve AGAIN
Opened presents AGAIN
Spent quality time with a Japanese foreign exchange student
Celebrated New Year’s Eve at Sonic, Lowe’s and Wal Mart.
Celebrated my mom’s birthday
Drove back to Louisville AGAIN

And finally, I am back at work. Because of my weird and hectic holiday/family/illness schedules, I worked a grand total of 6 days in the entire month of December. It feels really WEIRD being back.

This weekend, I am continuing the hectic trend by attending a UK vs. UofL basketball game on Saturday, followed by the Steelers playoff game on TV. After that, NO MORE TRAVELLING.

Next weekend is my birthday, so that will probably be even MORE hectic… but at least I will get more presents.
